Particle Filter Additive Service Overview

Keeping your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) working properly often depends on the particle filter additive system – also known as Eolys fluid or PAT fluid. This additive plays a vital role in the regeneration process by lowering the ignition temperature of soot, allowing it to burn away more efficiently.

Over time, the additive tank runs low and your vehicle may struggle to regenerate the DPF, leading to blockages, warning lights, poor performance, and costly repairs.

At DPF Specialist, we provide a fast and affordable Particle Filter Additive service. Our technicians check, top up, or reset the system as needed, ensuring your DPF stays clean, your engine runs smoothly, and emissions remain low.

DPF Specialists are the UK’s leading experts in diesel particulate filters and offer convenient roadside repair services. If your car is running low on Eolys fluid, the DPF may become blocked—leading to reduced performance or potential damage. Fortunately, with our service, we can restore your Diesel Particle Filter Additive Service levels and perform a Forced Regeneration Clean as part of our DPF Health Check.

Don’t wait for the problem to worsen—contact DPF Specialist for fast and professional assistance.

What is Particle Filter Additive Service?

The additive, namely Eolys, contains cerium and iron compounds that assist DPF regeneration during normal driving conditions. And if for any reason it’s empty the car will not attempt any kind of DPF regeneration.

Eolys fluid (also called DPF additive or PATS fluid) typically lasts between 70,000 and 120,000 miles, depending on the vehicle make, model, and driving style.

If the Eolys runs out then for a short while nothing untoward will happen as the FAP fills up with particulates. The problem will come when regeneration is initiated. The Eolys is there to reduce the temperature at which regeneration can take place so the probability is that the particulates will not burn off.

If the fluid is low or runs empty, your DPF won’t be able to regenerate properly. This can lead to:

  • DPF warning lights

  • Loss of engine power

  • Higher fuel consumption

  • Costly DPF blockages or damage

Refilling the fluid at the correct intervals avoids expensive repairs and keeps your DPF system working as it should.

Each model varies on amount required every manufacture has a maximum set for the tank.

A full tank of eolys additive should last around 70,000 miles.

Eolys fluid can be brought in kits or 1-5litre bottles and prices vary.

Eloy fluid has a separate tank mainly underneath the vehicle access can be tricky, programming and data reset is required once complete.

PATS fluid (also called DPF additive or Eolys fluid) is a liquid used in some diesel cars to help the DPF regenerate. A small dose is added when you refuel, lowering the burn temperature of soot so it clears more easily. Over time the tank runs low and needs topping up, or the DPF may block and trigger warning lights.

Prevention is better than cure

Klēn’s DPF Cleaner & Regeneration Aid helps drivers who frequently make short, low-speed trips by preventing soot buildup when the engine doesn’t get hot enough to burn it off.  This award winning product works by lowering the point at which the soot burns off.
